It’s a fast, ingenious way to jump-start the game. I was skeptical about the Ebon Eves adventure framework, which presents dozens of possible settings, but I turned to it in a pinch and was very pleased. The character Playsheets are well done, with a nice amount of individual specialization for the 1920s period. The moves translate well and the physical and mental harm systems are at just the right level of detail. Overall, Sean Preston does a good job of bringing Lovecraftian horror to the Apocalypse/Dungeon world system, and I really like Tremulus.

Probably the only thing that is similar in structure is Durance, which is a full game and not an adventure. Even if you are a total AW-nerd and don't like the basic rules, you can still appreciate this part of the book. You can run it twice for the same group and have it be totally different. The structure of the example adventure, Ebon Eaves, is really cool and has good replay value. People like to reverse the trust rules, as already noted in this thread, so that I roll with your trust in me instead of my trust in you, but that does require you to refer to the other players' sheets and/or ask them how much they trust you. This may not be what was intended for this game, though, so grain of salt and all that. Personally, I think the lore points and lore moves are too slow and don't do enough, but this is because I'm used to CoC one-shots, and I want PCs to get all their cool stuff out before the end of the first session where they die or go insane. The advantage over CoC is that you don't have to spend forever divvying up your skill points, just so you can go insane before you ever use half of them. People who want to play a horror game like Call of Cthulhu and have never played any AW seem to like it a lot. If you aren't familiar with AW, though, run it like any rpg and it should be fine. Most hardcore Apocalypse World fans and hackers seem to hate tremulus because of how it under-utilizes the things they admire in AW, and how they feel the moves haven't been drifted enough from AW to adequately account for the horror genre. r/boardgames - Boardgames that isn't TTRPGs.Hide "Table Troubles"-threads Related Subreddits Hide promo)-threads - (Crowdfunding, Free, Product, Self Promotion)
