Players can also use Gold to purchase Money (in-game currency). Firstly, players can purchase VIP with Gold (premium currency) which gives 50% experience and Money boosts. The in-app purchases in Shadowgun: Deadzone can be fairly pay-to-win if players are willing to spend a lot of money. This adds a new tactic to the gameplay and makes close encounters much more deadly. This gives the attacker an opportunity to shoot and finish off the opponent while they are on the ground. When players go up close to an enemy and press “shoot,” they will knock down the opponent and stun them for about 2 seconds. There is also a special knockdown attack that changes things up in a lot of encounters. Players can also go behind cover by running into an object, such as a wall or barricade, and can shoot over cover by pressing the shoot button. The controls are actually very polished and responsive and the gameplay requires skill, positioning, and quick reflexes. Like most mobile shooters, the touch controls take a while to get used to and most new players will have trouble aiming properly. There are also buttons on the top right to throw grenades, switch weapons, and use power-ups. Players can also aim by rotating the right side of the screen. Players can move with a virtual joystick and have a button to shoot as well as buttons to sprint, roll, and reload. The combat in Shadowgun: Deadzone is similar to many other mobile shooters. Like in Deathmatch, players will receive Money and experience based on their score and get a slight bonus if their team wins. Sometimes players will go stealthy, sneak past enemy players, and capture zones behind enemy lines which can create a lot of confusion and opportunities to push forward. This mode is fairly entertaining and requires some teamwork and strategy. Players can also spawn at any of the captured zones when they die to quickly get back into the heavy firefight regions. To capture a flag, players simply have to stand on the flag and there is a “flag raising” system such that players have to wait for a flag to raise to capture the zone and when capturing an enemy zone, the enemy’s flag must first be lowered before the flag can be raised. Teams start on opposite ends and have to move along capturing all the zones as firefights break out toward the middle. The maps have a linear, straight design and there are 5 zones (which are basically flags) labelled A-E along the map. Players are randomly placed in the Red or Blue team and the objective is to either get 100 kills before the other team or to capture all 5 zones. The second mode is called “Zone Defense.” This a team-based, capture the base (zone) mode.
